Co-founder and CEO of Kopi Kenangan
Edward Tirtanata is best known for establishing Kopi Kenangan, the popular grab-and-go coffee chain. Prior to that, however, the finance and accounting graduate from Northeastern University, USA, had established Lewis & Carroll, a premium establishment serving artisanal tea. Unfortunately, the brand struggled to grow among Indonesia's budget-conscious youths, who preferred the cheaper bubble tea. Learning from the experience, he decided to eschew the Starbucks-style “third home” retail concept and opted for grab-and-go stalls that are cheaper to establish, but without abandoning the quality of the coffee served. The concept proved to be a hit, and Tirtanata's new venture became a nationwide sensation.Aside from his role as CEO of Kopi Kenangan, Tirtanata is getting more deeply involved in the F&B startup ecosystem. In February 2020, he joined Gojek and startup ecosystem builder Digitaraya in establishing Digitarasa, a new accelerator program for F&B businesses.

Ezhil Subbian studied industrial biotechnology at Anna University in India. She then went to the US to complete two PhDs in biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology at the Oregon Health & Science University and from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey-New Brunswick. She was a research assistant at both universities.While in the US, she was also a research scientist at Gevo Inc and at Vollum Institute. In 2008, she became a scientist and technical lead at pharma Codexis in California. In 2011, she worked at San Francisco-based Kumar Investments as an entrepreneur and biotech consultant.In 2012, she founded biotech startup String Inc while on a nine-month Startup Leadership Program in Silicon Valley. In June 2013, she and husband returned to India and formed a new company String Bio to continue working on the alternative protein powder project for animal feed production.

Joana Paiva graduated in 2014 with a master’s in biomedical engineering at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. She went on to complete a PhD in physics at the University of Porto in 2019.In 2014, she also worked at INESC Technology and Science for almost five years while completing her PhD thesis: Intelligent Lab on Fiber tools for sensing single-cells and extracellular nano-vesicles. It was her research that led to the founding of medtech startup iLoF.In August 2019, she co-founded iLoF as CTO. The Oxford-Oporto-based startup enables personalized medicine through the use of AI and photonics to create optical fingerprints in a cloud-based library to collate disease biomarkers and biological profiles.Based in Porto, she is also a co-inventor with three patents and 29 scientific publications. She is one of Forbes 30 Under 30 for science and healthcare and was nominated for the EIT Woman Award 2020.

In 2013, he worked at digital advertising agency TXT Ghana as a business analyst until 2015.In January 2015, Obirikorang and Ocansey established their first startup Swappaholics Holdings in the British Virgin Islands. In 2016, the two friends also co-founded AgroCenta (Holdings) Limited in Mauritius with Obirikorang as CEO and Ocansey as CTO. Ocansey left the Swappaholics in 2016 to focus on building AgroCenta.Obirikorang still runs both companies as CEO and joined the global entrepreneur community Startup Grind in 2016 as chapter director of Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city.

Before that, he was CTO and co-founder at French real estate startup Wemblee where he still works part-time from Mali, initially simultaneously working as a salesforce administrator and developer in chemical company SEPPIC.Maiga previously worked at Rakuten in Tokyo for one year as a research and development VR scientist and also completed a stint at Accenture in Paris as an information system consultant. He also completed short stints in engineering at BCS Group in New Zealand and in business development at EATOPS in the Netherlands. The Malian national obtained two master’s degrees in innovation economics from Universite Paris-Saclay (2017) and in computer science from Keio University in Tokyo (2015), after winning scholarships to study overseas.

He was a visiting scholar at the University of Tokyo for one year until 1997.In 1999, Chen was headhunted and joined a US startup to work on developing an artificial heart (LVAD) product Levacor. The startup was later acquired by World Heart Corporation and Chen became its chief engineer. World Heart decided to shut down the program in 2006 because the product was too big to be placed inside a human chest.Chen went back to China in 2007 to found CH Biomedical to build a smaller LVAD device.

He worked at Graviky Labs from 2016–2018, during which he led its hardware development and prototyping. Currently, he works as a senior creative technologist at Lowe's Innovation Labs India.Kadyan holds a degree in computer science from the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore and did a research stint on AI and robotics at Freie University, Berlin. His background includes expertise in machine learning and embedded systems. Kadyan’s past projects include self-driving model cars, autonomous smart wheelchairs, an augmented reality interface for laser cutting, as well as machines that sketch and draw. He also founded a startup that does 3D printing in nearly any material, from plastic and metallic clay to chocolate, playdoh and fabric, and which was incubated at MIT Global Startup Labs 2014.Kadyan was named one of Foreign Policy magazine’s Top 100 Global Thinkers in 2016. He is a recipient of the Campus Diaries 25 Under 25 award, and is a two-time speaker at TEDx.
