Sky Ocean Ventures is a £25m impact investment fund and part of the Sky Media Group. It was launched in 2018 with the goal of accelerating businesses that can tackle global plastic pollution with innovative ideas and disruptive technologies. The firm has backed 20 startups that have developed solutions that help mitigate plastic disposals in the environment, such as disposable bottles made of paper, reusable delivery boxes, sachets made from seaweed and packaging made from wood chips. Xiang Xiaoqin sought plastic surgery in 2005 to regain her prenatal figure, but discovered it was difficult to find a reliable clinic in the highly opaque sector. This led her to found cosmetic surgery marketplace Yuemei. She is an economics graduate from Beijing Normal University and holds an MBA from the National University of Singapore.

Albert Marfà is co-founder and CEO of Spanish bioplastics startup Oimo, which he founded in 4Q17 and initially named Edible Plastic to promote the bioplastics he developed as his final degree project in university. Noelia Márquez Alfaya is the Spanish CEO and co-founder of 100% biodegradable plastic tech VEnvirotech, where she has worked since 2017. Prior to this, she was CEO and founder at Kubic Sabadell, an extra-curricular studies center, from 2012 to 2017. During this time, she also co-founded Mimmo Solutions, a textile creation company. All of her companies were based in the Barcelona area. In 2017, she gained entry to the youth entrepreneurship acceleration program Yuzz Santander, a Santander Bank initiative. Márquez holds a degree in industrial engineering and organization from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

In 2015, he set up MIWA Technologies in Prague, to realize his smart vending system into a business. He is currently CEO of MIWA and continues to work in packaging design as a partner at Cocoon Prague.Báča graduated from the University of Economics in Prague in 2002. As a 23-year-old design student, Yasin founded materials technology startup Petit Pli, and developed the design for the company’s first product, a pleated garment that could expand up to seven sizes to last children through their first few years of life. Petit Pli now makes expandable pleated clothes for children and adults, using a fabric derived from recycled plastic and a structure inspired by origami, architecture and space satellites. Petit Pli products have won a number of prestigious awards, such as the UK James Dyson Award, Time Magazine’s best invention of 2020 and the Red Dot Product Design Award.Yasin has a strong interest in photography and in the interplay between art and engineering. In 2020, Yasin was included by Forbes in its 30 Under 30 list for Europe.
