The investment vehicle initially focused on investments in agriculture and natural resources, but began to diversify into early consumer internet companies like Avito and Tinkoff Bank. Shares were listed on NASDAQ OMX and the VC pivoted to high-growth tech investments in 2007. In 2015, the name was changed to Vostok New Ventures and shortened to VNV Global in 2020 to reflect its international strategy to expand outside Europe.The mid-cap NASDAQ Stockholm exchange-listed VNV mainly invests in mobility, medtech and marketplaces. It currently has 31 startups in its portfolio and six exits managed to date. Recent investments led by VNV include the $43m Series B funding of London-based food waste app OLIO in September 2021 and the $1.6m seed round of Vietnamese dating app Fika in October 2021. 

Headed by the influential Beatriz González, the only woman to helm a VC firm in Spain, Seaya Ventures invests in early-stage startups looking toward international growth, especially in Latin America. Beatriz González is also the daughter of Francisco González Rodríguez, the chairman of Spain’s second largest bank BBVA.

iFLYTEK is a Chinese software company that specializes in speech technology such as speech synthesis and speech recognition. Established in 1999, iFLYTEK was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2008. With products like iFLYTEK Voice Input and iFLYTEK ViaFly, it has cornered more than 70% of the Chinese speech technology market. iFLYTEK has made investments in over 60 AI companies in the education, healthcare, loT, connected car and robotics sectors, where its products can be widely applied.

Founded in 2003, Northstar Group is a private equity firm managing over US$2 billion in equity capital. The firm focuses on investments in Indonesia and the rest of Southeast Asia. Its investment portfolio includes many different companies, from banks to manufacturing firms. It launched NSI Ventures in 2014, which focuses on early-stage investing in Southeast Asia and has invested in noted startups like Go-Jek and Moka. Northstar Group invested in Go-Jek as well.

Established in March 2015, SPDB International is an offshore investment bank wholly owned by Shanghai Pudong Development Bank (SPD Bank). It plays an important role in SPD Bank’s aspiration of becoming an international commercial bank with investment banking capabilities. SPDB International has three wholly-owned subsidiaries in Hong Kong as well as several offshore and onshore special purpose vehicles and subsidiaries to facilitate its management and investment operations.

Josep Ma Moyà is a Barcelona-based angel investor with a consulting background. He invests in and advises locally-based startups in different market segments. To date, he has invested in five startups. The most recent in 2019 was in the €2m seed round of Psquared, Spain’s first flexible workplace management and design company for hybrid workspaces. In 2017, he invested in Kognia Sports Intelligence, an automated software for real-time and post-match football analysis.

GGV Capital manages $3.8 billion across eight funds, making multi-stage investments in companies from mobile internet, hardware, cloud technology and SaaS sectors. Among them, 27 GGV-invested companies have completed IPOs in the last 10 years. Its portfolio features a wide range of companies, such as Alibaba, AirBnb, Qunar, YY, Didi, Soundcloud, slack, Youku Tudou and more. Founded in 2000, the firm deploys a single team operating in both China and the US.

KK Fund is named after Koichi Saito and Kuan Hsu. Founder and general partner Koichi was formerly from IMJ Investment Partners and a private equity fund run by George Soros. Co-founder and general partner Kuan had previously worked at Goldman Sachs, Temasek Holdings and GREE Ventures.Another KK partner or LP is Masahiko Honma, co-founder and general partner of Incubate Fund based in Japan. KK Fund focuses mainly on internet and mobile startups in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan; with possible seed stage funding ranging from US$100,000 to US$400,000 per startup.

Shenzhen-based Tiantu Capital manages over RMB 6 billion, spread across six RMB-denominated funds and one USD-denominated fund. The 30-plus-strong team also has offices in Shanghai and Beijing. It focuses on growth-stage consumer goods companies, particularly in the Series C round of financing. In 2015, it financed 22 startups, with total funding amounting to RMB 2.5 billion. Tiantu Capital was founded in 2002.
