Founded in 2010 by Martin Hartono, son of Indonesia’s richest man Robert Budi Hartono, GDP Venture is a venture capital firm focused on digital communities, and media, commerce and solution companies in the Indonesian consumer internet industry.

Founded in Shenzhen in 2013, Topsailing Capital is mainly involved in venture capital and private equity funding of diverse industry sectors like culture, entertainment, big data, intelligent manufacturing, agriculture, environmental protection and medicine.

Ahmir Khalib Thompson, better known as Questlove, is an American DJ, songwriter and filmmaker. He is the drummer and joint frontman of the hip-hop band the Roots and has also made several appearances in movies and television. He has been also a musical director at the 2020 and 2021 Academy Awards ceremony. The plant-based food investor was reportedly behind President Barack Obama’s upcoming birthday celebration in 2021. Questlove has backed plant-based food companies Impossible Foods and NotCo.Also in 2021, Questlove directed a film about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, the Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), which won the US Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for documentary at the Sundance Film Festival.

One of the earliest VC/PE firms in China, Shenzhen GTJA Investment focuses on the healthcare/biotech industry. It manages about RMB 10 billion and has invested in more than 100 companies since its inception in 2001.

After graduating from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro with a degree in Computer Science, Maulana Bayu Samudra worked as a web designer for Seven Media Technology from 2015 to 2018. Together with former colleague Fadhil Nur Mahardi and food entrepreneur Kaesang Pangarep, he established Indonesian home chef meal service Madhang in late 2017, serving as its first CEO. Maulana later took on the COO role in January 2019.

Ribbit Capital is a Silicon Valley VC that focuses on fintech-related startups. Founded in 2012, Ribbit Capital posits that the financial services industry has largely remained unchanged despite the developments in technology in the past decade. The company’s “mantra” states that it is a believer in consumers and businesses moving to mobile, and this will lead to major changes in how financial services are provided in the future.The company has invested in a wide range of fintech startups and technologies, including stock trading app Robinhood, cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinbase, and Revolut, one of the earliest “challenger banks” that primarily serves retail customers through digital, app-based services. In March 2021, US retail giant Walmart announced a partnership with Ribbit Capital to develop fintech products. Ribbit Capital made its first investment in the Southeast Asia region in that same month, when it led a $65m Series A extension into Indonesian investment platform Ajaib.

Former supply chain manager of an FMCG company based in Australia, Christopher Madiam ran a family fishery business before turning to the beauty industry.

With a master’s in media studies from Bangkok University, Chen Yang joined the travel industry in 2001. His roles include being the secretary-general of Holiday Ownership Association of Thailand and the vice-president of China Holiday Association and International Leisure Economy Promotion Association. Chen is fluent in English and Thai.

Gianpaolo Rando is CTO and co-founder at Swiss biotech SwissDeCode, which applies DNA testing to food traceability. He has worked there full-time since April 2016. Prior to this, Rando gained significant experience working in the field of genomics. He spent three years prior to SwissDeCode’s foundation trialing his DNA food testing technology in his startup BeerDeCoded and assisted in the launch of a compact DNA laboratory at Bento Bio in London. He previously spent almost three years at the University of Geneva in research, co-inventing a technology for ink to change color in response to a specific DNA sequence. His earlier position at the University of Lausanne as a post-doctoral fellow in genomics saw him lead a nine-man team for three and a half years, discovering the hormone that prepares newborns to lactate. Rando’s first post was at Trangenic Operative Products, leading animal research there. Italian-born Rando holds a PhD in biotechnology and pharmacology from the University of Milan as well as a qualification in data science. 

Founded in September 2019 by Patrick Morris, Eat Beyond went public on the Canadian Securities Exchange in November 2020. The company’s shares are also traded on the Frankfurt Exchange in Germany and OTC Markets in the US. Morris had worked in capital markets for over 15 years and wanted to find a solution to help retail investors access the emerging markets of alt-proteins and other future food sectors.First of its kind in Canada, the Eat Beyond Global Investment Fund focuses on four key areas: meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy. It also participates in cell agriculture and other experimental projects. Current investments include foodtechs and alt-food source companies working on plant-based proteins, fermented proteins, cultured proteins, agriculture and consumer packaged goods.
