Pearson Affordable Learning Fund (PALF) is the venture capital arm of Pearson, the world’s largest education company. With investments in 10 education startups and a total of 350,000 learners,PALF is expanding its range of affordable education solutions in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Indonesia’s online learning provider HarukaEdu is the 11th addition.It is PALF’s first foray into the online higher education market.

PT Prasetia Dwidharma is a telecommunications infrastructure contractor that focuses on base transceiver station (BTS) construction projects. The company was founded in 2008 by Budi Setiadharma, the chairman of the board of Indonesian conglomerate PT Astra Internasional. Besides its contractor business, the company has also invested in notable startups such as Indonesia’s smart city app Qlue and online language course site SquLine.com.

MDI Ventures is the venture capital arm of Telkom, Indonesia’s state-owned telco. It aims to invest in disruptive and innovative companies in the online, media, and mobile internet space. It also supports fledgling startups through Indigo, an incubator and accelerator program.

Established in 1953, Gunung Sewu is a privately owned Indonesian conglomerate and investment management group that operates diversified businesses in insurance, food, real estate, consumer and resources. Founded by Om Go Soei Kie, aka Dasuki Angkosubroto, Gunung Sewu was originally a commodity trading enterprise.  

Indogen Capital is Indonesia’s latest VC founded in early 2017. The private fund looks for founder “athletes and shapes them into champions”, with capital injections of US$100,000 to US$500,000.VC advisor and Tokopedia co-founder, Leonitus Alpha Edison is passionate about mentoring startups on how to negotiate founder-friendly deals.The other VC partners are: Hendry Willy (Leon’s friend and founder of TokoUSB.com), private equity veteran Teezar Firmansyah, Nararya Ciputra Sastrawinata of business tycoon family in real estate and Ciputra University. Indogen’s CEO Chandra Firmanto is Leon’s childhood friend whose family business had joint ventures with Ciputra. 

Adrian Suherman has over 19 years of management experience, including senior executive roles. He was the vice president of Indonesian telco Telkomsel and was also the CEO of aCommerce. Adrian was previously a software engineer for Sun Microsystems and had also worked at Sherikon Inc, Oracle, AT Kearney and LivingSocial.He is currently the CEO of Lippo Group’s digital branch and fintech firm OVO, as well as a commissioner of Lippo Group’s e-tailer MatahariMall.

Andy Zain is a veteran businessman, executive and angel investor. The Monash University graduate worked in management roles in various Indonesian tech companies and also co-founded companies like Elastisitas and Numedia Global. He is well-known as a founding partner and managing director at VC Kejora Ventures. Andy is also part of ANGIN, the Indonesian network of angel investors that collaborates with Grupara Ventures.

Ideabox Ventures is a VC launched by Indonesian telecoms Indosat Ooredoo, Kejora Ventures and Mountain Partners SEA in November 2016. The VC was an addition to the existing annual accelerator Ideabox program that had nurtured startups like Dealoka, Pawoon and Wobe. More venture capital is expected to come from new partnerships with global institutions in Asia, Europe and North America. Early stage or pre-Series A funding of up to US$500,000 will be awarded to each startup, as well as strategic commercial consultancy and support services to boost the expansion of the VC’s portfolio firms.

Longtime internet businessman Eka Ginting is the founder and CEO of Indo.com, one of Indonesia’s first travel booking websites. Eka is also a commissioner of PT Rimba Raya Conservation, a company focused on forest restoration in Borneo.In recent years he has been involved in the burgeoning startup scene, becoming a mentor at Founders Institute and a board member in a few Indonesian startups. One of these startups is DanaDidik, a crowdfunding website for student loans.

Gemilang Dana Sentosa is an entity formed by shareholders of DOKU, one of Indonesia’s pioneering e-wallet services. Its most notable investment is in Bareksa, an online investment portal.

Batavia Incubator was founded as a joint venture between Rebright Partners, a Japanese incubator, and the Indonesian financial group, Corfina Group. The firm focuses on investing in Indonesian startups.

Eduardo Saverin is a Brazilian tech entrepreneur and angel investor who is most famous for co-founding Facebook. A skilled investor, he reportedly made US$300,000 from trading while he was a Harvard undergraduate. He was also a co-founder and partner at B Capital Group that invested in logistics startup Ninja Van. In 2015, he invested in Indonesian e-commerce site Bilna and joined another funding round when Bilna merged with Moxy to form Orami.

Established in August 2017, Insignia Ventures Partners is a newly-founded VC by former Sequoia Capital partner Yinglan Tan, a Stanford and Carnegie Mellon alumnus who joined Sequoia in 2012. He had also worked for 3i, Taiwanese AI startup Appier and has been with Indonesia’s Tokopedia since 2014.Starting with maiden funds worth US$120 million, Insignia has invested US$1 million in Indonesia’s B2B platform for the F&B sector Stoqo. Its lead round of US$3.5 million, for co-working spaces EV Hive in September 2017, was joined by Intudo Ventures, Pandu Sjahrir and other prominent angel investors.

GWC Innovator Fund was established by GWC, which hosts the annual Global Mobile Internet Conference and the invite-only G-Network. The fund aims to brings Silicon Valley investment into the wider world, reaching startups like India’s women-focused platform POPxo, Chinese AI chatbot TravelFlan and Indonesian restaurant review site Qraved.

Provident Capital is a Singapore-based venture capital firm, investing mostly in Indonesian businesses. Its portfolio spans various industries, including telecommunications, mining and agriculture. It has also invested in JD.id, the Indonesian branch of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com, as well as Indonesian microlending startup JULO.
